The newest title in our catalogue, Where Are We Headed by Ruslan Fetodow has won the Award for The Best First Feature and Award for Best Cinematography at IDFA 2021. Below are the jury statements:
“Displaying the innate ability to capture fleeting but profound moments of humane and often humorous connection within a complex, bustling environment, this DOP – also the film’s director – guides us through grand halls, corridors, and carriages, making an entire universe out of the Moscow metro system. The Award for Best Cinematography goes to Ruslan Fedotow for his first feature WHERE ARE WE HEADED.”
“In little over an hour, this filmmaker managed to convey both the particularities of a brutal, masculinist nation and the relational and individual struggles that constitute every urban community. Inside the mouth of a busy metro station in Moscow, the filmmaker throws us into close contact with a cast of idiosyncratic locals. With incredible aesthetic and editorial confidence, he never allows his viewer to sink back into the familiar comforts of ‘story’ or ‘characters.’ As a jury, we were particularly struck by the commitment to a form that allows the viewer to be particularly active. The IDFA Award for Best First Feature goes to Ruslan Fedotow’s WHERE ARE WE HEADED.”
The film is produced by Nastia Korkia, Ruslan Fedotow, Matvey Fiks, Simon Zakruzhnyy, Alex Zyablikov from Pinery.
